How do I open a PDF from arXiv?
You can either: 1) Use the built-in arXiv browser by tapping
the arXiv button, 2) Enter an arXiv ID or URL in the
document picker, or 3) Use the share extension from Safari.
How does AI translation work?
Simply tap on any paragraph in the PDF. Octavo will extract
the text locally and send only the paragraph text (not the
entire PDF) to the LLM for translation. The translation
appears as an overlay.
Is my data private?
Yes! Octavo only sends necessary text snippets to AI
services for translation/summarization. The original PDF
files never leave your device.
Which AI models are supported?
Octavo supports OpenAI (GPT-4, GPT-4o, o1), Anthropic
Claude, Google Gemini, and Azure OpenAI. You can configure
your preferred service in Settings.
Can I use Octavo without an internet connection?
Yes for basic PDF reading. AI features (translation and
summarization) require an internet connection and API keys.
